Is there any 180-199 pounder that could have done better against 1965 Ali

l am so impressed with Walcott's skill, his unique footwork, his way of presenting different angles, his trap setting and counterpunching, his unpredictability, his rhythm and arm strength. Jersey Joe was a compact brute with one-punch KO power! I like him enormously, even as an actor. He was effective in "The Harder They Fall". the thinly disguised story of Primo Carnera. His big scene is where he has to punch Toro Moreno in the jaw to prove to him that his wins until now have been setups and he can't possibly mix it up with a goon like Buddy Brannen (played by Max Baer) Clearly Walcott feels sorry for Toro, he hates to hurt him, he has a soft heart for him. But then he lets Toro have it with the right hand, WHAM! That punch is totally believable.

If AJ can unlock the code, The Bomber most certainly could, and before Franics even switches to southpaw. :D

A poster from the old days, Burt Birkenstock had actually been to some of Walcott's fights and he was incredibly impressed by him.
I found an article by the Camden Post from 1936 a week before the Louis-Ettore fight that described Walcott as the hardest puncher to come out of Jersey in the last 10 years. He could really crack.

Here is the newspaper, on PC I don't need a membership to see it but it asks on my phone.
You can see a photo of a 22 year old Jersey Joe.

I just remembered about that meeting with Clay. He was only six years older than me. I was 14, he was 20. I remember thinking he was young. This was December 1962 and he was already thinking about and starting to bang the drums for a Liston match. At first he wrote on my picture, "Liston in 8 1964". Then he said something like, "Wait, then I'll be older than Patterson was."
So he crossed out 1964 and wrote in 1963. That picture would have value today and I could use the bread. But I try not to forget what Buddha said: All human suffering can be traced back to attachments. Do not cling or crave.

I can't see it without joining but he must've weighed around 165.

He's such an original. Seeing him fight on film is like listening to Muddy Waters.

Re the saying at the end of your post - very wise and true. You’ve got the memory and no one can take that.

You’re right, Zora was orthodox to the max - a relatively basic model of Louis but I still liked him and his style - and he really was well past his salad days.

I don’t know what Zora got paid for the fight but I hope it was decent.

Loved the way Ali embraced him after the fight and chatted to him - apparently Ali spoke to his kids also and told them how great their Dad was.

During the prefight IV, Folley appeared to be a relatively subdued and reserved man.

He mentioned having 8 kids in total! More than boxing, that might explain his apparently “beaten down” persona. Lol!

I was a Zygote (working title: Ziggy) at the time but extremely advanced for my relatively “short existence” - I couldn’t claim an actual “age” until I popped out into oxygenated Earth to live and breathe on my own

I knew the smart money had to be on Mike, **** nostalgia. I was already a head, not heart, guy. Loved ya work Larry but your time had passed.

For want of a better description, I telepathically controlled my Mum to put some big money on Mike.

She walked into the betting outlet like a singularly purposed zombie and laid the $$$ down - so we cleaned up.

The winnings went to my attending University - which I kicked off at age 5. It actually hurts to be so cerebrally empowered - very lonely too.:(
