Should Danny Lopez be in the Hall of Fame?
I remember one of the writer's here, in a story about Bobby Chacon, mentioning the Chacon/Lopez fight and saying regarding to Lopez "and why isn't he in the hall of fame?"....I haven't seen enough footage of him to have an opinion, and for all I know he's in the process of getting in, or maybe he already is, its been awhile since I read the article...anyways, whats the general opinion here?

Re: Should Danny Lopez be in the Hall of Fame?
Hell yes. What a FIGHTER! Just watch his fight with Mike Ayala and then tell me what you think. The guy was really tough, came forward, took it, and dished it, and could really punch. Defense wasn't the greatest, and accumulated punishment shortened his reign, particularly when he came up against a star like Sanchez, but no doubt, Danny Lopez was a heck of a fighter and champion.

I think so. He was a action fighter and very popular. Always in a good fight, got off the canvas to win many a good fight.

Yes....and several years ahead of Barry McGuigan

Sure he belongs there. Even if the Hall were to tighten up their rather forgiving criteria for entry, he'd still make the grade. He was champ for nearly four years and was a fixture in the division for a good amount of time.
McGuigan, for example? No. People were/are so in love with what he represented outisde the ring, and were so enamored of his plucky Irish ways that what he actually accomplished in the ring was almost an afterthought. |
Re: Should Danny Lopez be in the Hall of Fame?
He would be a worthy inductee into the HOF. He was a very exciting fighter /Champion in the 70's and was very good for boxing when featured on TV.

Yes!

Re: Should Danny Lopez be in the Hall of Fame?
For sure. He as an immensely exciting and couragous fighter. Great champ and impressive reign, as well.
Harsh on "our Baz", btw. Perhaps not quite hall-of-fame, or a true ATG but McGuigan at his best was a very good fighter, plus he beat Padroza to win the World FW title the night I just turned 1 year old. Great night for Irish boxing. :smoke |
Re: Should Danny Lopez be in the Hall of Fame?
Finbar is in really because of what he meant to the people at the time, which is a lot more than any boxer can dream of. On achievement Lopez should be in there ahead of him of course; head-to-head: McGuigan would have mashed him.
