Kubrat Pulev's professional career

Did anybody know about this? He's fighting on the Sebastian Sylvester under card this weekend against some journeyman. It's happened quite quickly as Pulev was fighting at the world amateur boxing championships just a few days ago.

Never the less, a good and much needed addition to the European heavyweight boxing scene.

Re: Kubrat Pulev pro debut

Well, he already wanted to turn pro after the European Championships in November 2008 and there was talk that he was signed by Sauerland and would debut on the Valuev-Holyfield card in December 2008 but he wasn't allowed to because he had to fullfill his contract with the Bulgarian army so that not really a surprising move.

Ahem, that's interesting. I must have missed it on the news. Is this according to boxrec only?

I will ask around but no one talks about this on the Bulgarian boxing forum.

Not a bad prospect.

From what I learn it is true and this time Pulev will debut as pro. I have been waiting for this for a long time. He is 26 so it is not late.

Didn't Pulev defeat Timurizev before Timurizev fell apart? If I remember the guy right he's a good boxer, but not one to win by going toe to toe with the punchers.

Well, he won a decision against Timurziev 2005 in a tournament 2005 on his home turf in Bulgaria. On the other hand Timurziev stopped him in the semifinals of the Euopean Championships 2006.

For his pro debut tonight, Kubrat Pulev will face Florian Benke (2-3) from Romania. Sauerland plans to have him fight once per month for the rest of the year so he can be 4-0 entering 2010.

Re: Kubrat Pulev pro debut

I dont expect Pulev to be a world class fighter, but in Europe everything should be possible. If fat old Paolo Vidoz, who looked just terrible against Skelton, still gets a shot at the European title, then just about everyone decent can go to the top.

I think Pulev looks a bit like Chagaev, he's taller though.

The next undisputed HW champion of the world. Book it. WHO NEX
He can get himself a title shot for one of the EU belts, but he must work hard on his stamina. 4 rounds to 12 is the biggest problem for most of the am->pro boxers.
BTW Is Ivo Gotzev his manager?

Yep, his girlfriend is bulgarian a pop folk/softcore star(if you think that Lady Gaga videos are slutty...).

Re: Kubrat Pulev pro debut

Pulevīs attitude was terrible in his debut fight... His opponent was poor, but still able to land several good shots on Pulev.
