Andrzej Fonfara (born November 11, 1987 in Radom) is a Polish professional boxer currently living in Chicago (IL, USA). He is current WBC youth light heavyweight World Champion. At may 20th he scored a massive sixth-round knockout over Anthony Russell (16-3-1, 5 KOs) in the main event of Windy City Fight Night 17 at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago. With the victory, Fonfara won the vacant WBO NABO title in front of a large crowd of Polish fans including former heavyweight contender Andrew Golota.

Andrzej took his first steps in boxing in Warsaw boxing club “Gwardia Warszawa’. His trainers were Jacek Kucharczyk and Jerzy Rybicki. After some time he decided to transfer to another Warsaw boxing club “CWKS Legia Warszawa”, and this time he trained with Krzysztof Kosedowski, Adam Kozlowski and Lukasz Landowski. But he didn’t stay there for long and transferred back to his original club. This time he was working with Stanislaw Lakomiec with whom he won his biggest trophies. Finally as a senior he trained with Pawel and Sebastian Skrzecz and with them he ended his amateur carrier.

His professional carrier had begun in 2006 in Ostroleka, Poland where he won by majority of points versus Miroslav Kubik. After this fight he got a chance to train and fight in US. From this point he resides with his family in Chicago and trains with Sam Collona (Andrzej Golota’s trainer). In 2009 he signed a contract with Dominic Pesoli’s 8 Count Productions. At the beginning of 2010 he decides to move to light heavyweight division which is better for his physical conditions. Later in 2010 he won a WBC Youth Championship, and in 2011 WBO NABO Title. On September 23rd he won by TKO in second round with Jose Spearman in his home town Chicago.

He has won 19 of his 22 fights, 10 of which by knockout, and lost two.

Re: Andrzej Fonfara

Fonfara's skills have improved a lot since his losses. He's got a nice jab and really good pop in his right. He's not facing stiff enough competition for my liking. I love being able to watch him fight all the time (he fights at an arena mere blocks from where I live), but at this point I'd rather see them either bringing in better fighters or him going elsewhere.

Looks like a good prospect to me. However what turns me off is that he ain't that fast for an LHW. His speed is rather average. Don't see him beating anyone from top 10 in the near future.

But he improves, works hard so I'll be looking forward to see him become a better fighter:)

Is he not Cleverly's next opponent?

There was a report of that but I think it was false.

Cleverly has a mandatory, the underrated Dmitry Sukhotsky. As far as I know the only way he can avoid fighting Dmitry next is with a unification fight (unless he gets special permission from the WBO).

He's an up and coming future contender at LHW

He did improve a bit. This guy used to be a welterweight...He is trained by Golota old trainer, Sam Colonna.

Andrzej does have a couple of early losses, but he's been improving and is still only age 24.

Yes. And why did Andre Ward and Nonito Donaire hire Victor Conte?

So they wouldn't get disgracefully caught. :yep

Probably, yes. Innocent until proven guilty though.
