No, Jimmy Wilde is and it is not really close, unless we are calling Fitzy a Brit.

Outside of Britain and Ireland, in proper Europe (we in England, do not really consider ourselves European) I would say Carpentier edges Benvenuti...

Can you consider Lennox Lewis a euro?

Joe Calzaghe is an ATG and one of the top 10 European fighters of all time, but he's not #1.

Does it make a difference?

Calzaghe deserves a ton of respect for destroying Jeff Lacy(undefeated at the time), soundly defeating Kessler(also undefeated at the time) and getting by Hopkins but, calling him the greatest anything is a stretch. With that said, he's in my top 5 at SMW but clearly below guys like Schmeling, Papp and Wilde on any list of atg European boxers.

I'd probably rate him on the same level p4p with Tszyu and Michalczewski.

Carpentier is not even the best of France.

Joe Calzaghe is not even the best British boxer of all time (L.Lewis, Lynch, Turpin, Buchanan, Berg, Conteh, Honeyghan)

Marcel Cerdan
Jimmy McLarnin
Max Schmeling
Young Corbett III
Duilio Loi

are just a few of the top of my head

Well Britain isn't really considered to be Europe, so I'd say probably Klitschkos.
