Pacquiao or Mayweather...who exceeded our expectations more?

Yes another Pacquiao-Mayweather poll.... :bbb :D

Who among these two great fighters have done more with less talent and skills, has accomplished more with lesser expectations? Who among the two always surprised us and has proven us wrong more than the other?

Manny Pacquiao is an underachiever. Even if you thought he was going to beat Oscar de la Hoya in 2008, nobody would have expected he would then beat Cotto, Margarito, Mosley, Hatton, etc.

Floyd Mayweather is a great fighter, but you could probably say he achieved less than many expected.

To answer the question, Pacquiao has exceeded expectation much more.

Simply put, Floyd was grew up in boxing. Dad and 2 uncles were talented pros. Floyd was an olympian, and was groomed to be a champion (or multiple) as soon as he turned pro. So him winning a lot of title is more or less warranted by his abilities. Though winning it 6 times was exceeding expectations as well.

On the other hand, Pac was a wild swinging slugger who has only his power and fighting heart as a foundation. Plus he was already stopped. He was an underdog on his first title shot for starters, simply because Sasakul was better skilled. And it showed, it was only his power that saved the day. Then he got stopped again and few people thought he'll be a champion again. But he did. And then the achievements piled up, the win over Ledwaba, Barrera and beyond.

So in terms of expectations, it was Pacquiao.

also post some instances when each one has proven you wrong. for example, i bet against pac in the oscar fight and almost bet against him again for the cotto fight. from then on, i promised not to bet against him again. also for floyd, i thought that mosley would have given him some challenge for at least 3 to 4 rounds but floyd absolutely dominated him after a shaky round 2.

Really from early on in floyd's career many people said he would be the best p4p fighter in the sport and guess what they were right. Not only that but he has won 7 or 8 world titles in 5 different weightclasses while be 43-0. He has gone onto set the record alongside del la hoya for the biggest boxing ppv fight in history. Mayweather has achieved a hell of a lot more than anyone would have expected back when floyd was fighting at 130, only a hater would suggest otherwise.

How many fighters who started out at 130 went up to 154 and stayed undefeated, whilst fighting at an elite level. You can't name many and the ones you do name will be ATG'S:good

No one thought he would beat cotto and oscar, FEW thought he would beat hatton, but people who kno boxing knew hatton was washed up...all those other fighters u named, where bums, we all knew he would beat them easily, quit that lyin

Floyd never fought a prime Cotto, Margarito, Williams or Pac.

Mind you, I'm not saying those guys would have beaten him, and Margarito was exposed as a cheater anyway -- I just remember people wanting him to fight all of those guys, and for some reason it never happened. Floyd chose Baldomir instead of Marg, and when Merchant asked him about Cotto after the Hatton fight Floyd was only interested in talking about his retirement. Then Pac emerged as a threat and we got all the speeches about blood tests and cleaning up the sport.

I also remember people wanting pac to fight Guzman, Soto and Nate but guess what it never happened. Works both ways.

But Floyd opted retirement and Pac went on to win at 135 to 147 (150).

There's a difference.

back in 130, pacquiao fought morales, barrera and marquez. these are the tough guys at the weight. guzman, valero and soto then where good fighters but hardly a better opponent than the 3 great mexicans. it's good if pac can fight all of them but pac has no responsibilty to fight all the ranked SF at the time. just fight the very best and they were morales, marquez and barrera.
