"The Maestro de Socos"

A 5' 10" brilliant boxer-puncher, who became the WBC Light-Middleweight Champion in May 1975.

A short-term Champion, that very few saw fight. Fast-hands and a crisp puncher, who was razor-sharp in punching accuracy.

Turned professional in June 1968 (at age 20 1/2)

Ran off '30' straight wins 30-0-0 (20 KO's), and earned the #1 WBC Light-Middleweight ranking by the end of 1972.

Tuesday Night - January 9, 1973 - Fought World Light-Middleweight Champion * Koichi Wajima in Tokyo, Japan -
at the Metropolitan Gym in front of 11,000 Japanese Boxing fans.

Boxed circles around the Champion, and clearly won the fight, but the '3' Japanese scoring officials - scored the
bout a 15-Round Draw.

The scoring was considered 'corrupt and inept', as the 'independent boxing press' had scored Miguel De Oliveira the
winner, by a score of 8-4-3 in rounds.

When the Brazilian Military called Miguel De Oliveira for duty, to help and
protect the innocent civilians, he volunteered his services to 'his' country.

Miguel also performed 'boxing exhibitions', and donated all the proceed's
to the injured military personnel.

Wow I didn´t know that.......he was known as "A Fera de Osasco" as well in his home town, very nice guy, humble, a great person......he was a good trainer later on (still is), trained guys like Adilson Rodrigues, the brazilian HW, well ranked in the 80s...
Apparently his win against Jose Duran was clear and his performance was pretty good.....
IMO he beat Wajima twice.....close fights, but I think Miguel landed the harder shots pretty clearly and in the rematch he also had a higher workrate during the whole bout.....

Following the 'controversial 15-Round Draw' with Koichi Wajima on January 9, 1973 at the
Metroplitan Gym in Tokyo. Miguel scored '5' straight wins with (4 KO's), to maintain his
#1 WBC-ranking while improving his 'unbeaten record' to 35-0-1 (24 KO's).

But again, when Miguel travelled back to the Metroplitan Gym in Tokyo, on February 5, 1974
to tangle with Champion Koichi Wajima in a 'rematch', and he was again done in by another group
of '3' Japanese scoring officials, as they awarded Koichi Wajima a 'Majority' 15-Round Decision.

From February 1974 thru May 1975

Following the 'second bad decision' versus Koichi Wajima, Miguel returned to Brazil
to score '6' more wins and (4 KO's) to improve to 41-1-1 (28 KO's) and re-establish
his #1 WBC Light-Middleweight ranking.

April 1975, the WBC declared the Light-Middleweight Championship 'vacant' when Champion
Koichi Wajima refused to fight #1 Challenger Miguel De Oliveira a 'third time'.

On Wednesady Night - May 5, 1975

At the Stade Louis II Stadium in Monte Carlo, and in front of 18,000 fans.

#1 WBC - the 27 1/2 year-old Brazilian - Miguel De Oliveira 41-1-1 (28 KO's) won a clear-cut
15-Round Unanimous Decision over the #2 WBC - the 29 year-old Spaniard - Jose Manuel Duran 55-3-7 (21 KO's)
to win the 'vacant' WBC Light-Middleweight Championship.

What happened to Miguel De Oliveira after the Elisha Obed (L TKO 11) 'disaster' in
Paris, France in November 1975.

Miguel was only 28, and then 'fell-off-the-radar'.

Yeah, I think some bad management of his career helped with this sudden decline..

I guess he moved up to 160 lbs. (Middleweight) and flopped.

I read an article about his bout with Elisha Obed in November 1975.

The 'Bahamian Bomber" gave him a sound thrashing in Paris, enroute to a TKO 11.

Elisha gave him a 'bad beating', that Miguel may not have recovered from.

Miguel was supposed to get a rematch with Elisha Obed, but De Oliveira lost a 'one-sided'
12-Round Decision to veteran Juarez De Lima in February 1976.

That knocked him out of the 'rematch', which was supposed to be in April 1976.
