Buakaw Banchamek to meet Manny Pacquiao in the Ring
Yep, you read it right the first time.
Buakaw and Manny are gonna meet in the ring in the interests of closer ties between Thailand & the Philippines. The meeting will be a freindly amatuer boxing bout and both countries will make an international announcement soon. This is the announcement on Thai TV and the clip is from Buakaw's You Tube channel. It's in Thai, but I'll do a better translation when I get to my computer, I'm on the iPhone now and hate typing on it. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufh6GICRyIc[/ame] |

This is really interesting, looking forward to it...

Re: Buakaw Banchamek to meet Manny Pacquiao in the Ring
On paper this looks exciting...but...
1. Buakaw is not a pro boxer (even though he's had basic training) 2. Pac has experience in Muay Thai but he is not on Buakaw's level as a Muay Thai specialist 3. Pac's promoter Bob Arum would not allow MP to risk an injury especially if he has a boxing match in the near future Edit: I miss the "friendly amateur" part. I suppose it's more of a play? Not very interesting if you ask me. But whatever floats your boat. I want to see a real fight in which both fighters are allowed to use their strengths (basically an MMA match) |

I think the call of Pac's beloved motherland trumps uncle Bob. Pac has MT experience? When? Where? How? :huh |

In answer to you question in a MMA bout who wins? Well, one seasoned champion fighter with two weapons takes on another sesoned champion fighter with 8 weapons....you do the math..... About Pac's expereince in Thailand, it doesn't work like you say. When a Pinoy boxer gets flown over to fight a Thai (which happens regularly) he is flown out no earlier than a week, usually does the press conference in a hotel for the Thai media, given a pair of Twinns boxing shorts, fights and before he's had time to get to the top floor of MBK he's on a plane home. Not enough time to learn how to say kick in Thai let alone how to throw onen. He was never based in Thailand and I think only fought there a handful of times. I'd say that's an boxing Urban Myth. |
Re: Buakaw Banchamek to meet Manny Pacquiao in the Ring
I'm having a nostalgia.
There was a statement from Pacquiao about 3 or 4 years ago that he might try MMA after retiring from boxing. |
Re: Buakaw Banchamek to meet Manny Pacquiao in the Ring
I'm interested to see how they mesh, even in a friendly light spar. I don't think more weapons automatically mean more success, the styles and individuals make the most difference. Crossing styles with boxers has always interested me.

Just to be clear Manny Pacquiao trained Yaw Yan not Mauythai. cant find the video of him sparring (I think Youtube took it down) but here is a picture of manny in Thai shorts for your enjoyment.

Still, interesting to see the sparring match. I'd have loved to see Somrak in there. |

On a side note, Freddie Roach might be ailing with his Parkinsons. But his hands are still sharp. |
