How good was Audley Harrison?
If gets beaten tonight its all over for A-Force but how good was he both in ability and what he achieved? I've said it over and over again to my mates that Harrison has all the tools to become the best heavyweight in the world but for whatever reason it hasn't happened. Will be people remember him as a an unfulfilled talent or as a bloke who gave it all the talk but was acxtually a poor heavyweight and a poor boxer. An Olympic gold medal winner and has become European champion as a pro which for most boxers is a good career.

Re: How good was Audley Harrison?
his "skills" were overrated, but I do believe if he had a winning mentality he could have done better, and possibly picked up an alphabet strap.
He was never going to be the next Lewis though, so the expectations were a bit too high for him. I dont belive he will retire if he loses tonight, there will be some excuse and "I can't retire knowing i wasn't able to give it all" |
Re: How good was Audley Harrison?
Not very good at all, having good attributes means fuck all if you freeze on the big occasion and are shit scared of being hit.
His performance against Haye was worthy of the death penalty and I still want my £15 quid back. |
Re: How good was Audley Harrison?
I don't believe he will retire either. He has absolutely no legacy to leave. He may as well never existed in boxing.

Re: How good was Audley Harrison?
Harrison has decent physical tools and has the benefit of being a southpaw with decent power and decent skills. Unfortunately the man is not a 'fighter'. He doesn't relish battle at all. When he gets hit he looks a mixture of confused and terrified. You have to either be a warrior (like say Duran or Frazier - they just come to fight) who likes a tear up or very intelligent (Like Mayweather or Leonard) or both to be successful. Harrison is neither. He just doesn't have 'it'. It's a shame really he seems an alright bloke. He's just both delusional and has pissed a lot of fans off by being too terrified to throw a punch when he is being paid a million for it.

as good as his last win...:-(

Re: How good was Audley Harrison?
Audley's problem is what Mike Tyson pointed out, he is a nice guy and doesn't have that killer instinct.
The sad thing is, nobody knows how good Harrison could have been, the BBC deal turned him into a joke figure because of the level of opposition (which wasn't all that bad IMO) being perceived as shit by the casual/less casual viewers. I'm still waiting for Audley to just snap and go crazy on some opponents. |

Re: How good was Audley Harrison?
Harrison had brilliant timing. The one time he put it all together was in the 2000 Olympics. It made him a rich man, and gave him his fame/infamy.
Everything pre 2000 Olympics (look at the archives) and post Olympics, showed a man with potential, but not the drive to turn that potential into success. |
Re: How good was Audley Harrison?
harrison couldve been a legend!
Ali, Fraizier, Foreman, Harrison, Marciano, Joe Louis... wasted talent! |

he was/is not very good at all. european level at best and he was lucky to win that title (never defended it). Danny Williams was twice the fighter.
