Why did Wladimir let Vitali take the Purritty and Sanders rematch?
 

Purritty KO'd Wlad in 98, Sanders in 03,

I'm fair to Wladimir but i simply can't defend him here, maybe somewhere between then and now he grew a pair..

well atleast he was man enough to rematch brewster :conf i am disappointed tho that he never avenged his 1st 2 losses

He fought Brewster after he was in the hospital for like 9 months and hadn't fought in 15 months total

The fraud didn't want any part of him the two years he held the WBO belt

Wlad had a rematch scheduled against Puritty, in which Ross pulled out with an injury. It isn't as if people really wondered who was better between the two anyways. The fight was simply a learning experience for an extremely young Wlad... who had just fought 24 fights in only a couple years... it was his 6th fight in 6 months and he had a fight only 3 weeks prior! Just a sign of the horrible management that Wlad had early in his career. By all accounts, it was his first and only fight in his hometown of Kiev... they had him running ragged doing promotional work, he was undertrained and sick. And was completely unprepared for a durable pro like Ross Puritty who is known for having a granite chin and being an extremely physically strong fighter. The man had pushed Tommy Morrison to a Draw while dropping him twice. Wlad boxed Puritty's ears off for 10 rounds and then ran completely out of gas. He wasn't even hurt by Puritty after... Fritz stopped the fight while Wlad was standing standing on his feet eating shots that he normally never took, just too exhausted to defend himself properly. Wlad was actually pissed that Fritz stopped it.

Wlad asked the WBO for an immediate rematch against Sanders, as it wasn' t in their contract. The WBO declined, and Sanders refused to fight him. Wlad then did the only thing he could do, which was beat a couple of ranked WBO fighters, regain WBO mandatory status, and challenge Sanders for his title. Which is exactly what Wlad did. Sanders sat on the title for nearly a year without fight anyone, until the WBO eventually ruled that Sanders must defend against Brewster, with the winner fighting a mandatory fight against Wlad directly afterward. Sanders then decided to vacate his WBO title without defending it, and went on to fight Vitali for the WBC title instead.

Sanders said in an interview at the time that he knew Wlad wanted to rematch him, but he wasn't going to rematch Wlad until after he won his fight against Vitali. Well... we know that didn't happen. It's simple really... Sanders knew that he dodged a bullet that he wouldn't dodge twice. He wanted to try and cash in on his new found fame and didn't want to just lose a rematch to Wlad or even lose his next fight to Brewster. He wanted to try and make history by beating both Klitschkos.

Wlad can't force people to get into the ring with him. Brewster also refused to fight Wlad in a rematch until Brewster ended up losing and fighting Wlad was his only option to try and get back into the mix at the top. Wlad was ALWAYS willing to rematch.

In reality, rematches are overrated. If you don't secure a rematch with a person right away, you never really get credit for beating that guy when you do fight. Even if you do rematch them right away and win... it still doesn't take away the fact that you lost to that person. All you can do is move on with your career rematch or not... and go on to do bigger and better things. Which Wlad has clearly done.

Sanders says “Yes, it would be nice to fight him [Wladimir] again. I do not know why he never wanted a rematch.”

And glass jawed fraud Wlad never pursued a rematch with Puritty

And if rematches are so overrated then why are Klit lickers STILL bitching about the rematch between Vitali and Lennox?

Ross wasn't inactive for 15 months in the hospital, so he didn't meet Wlad's rematch criteria

:lol: Did you happen to notice the date of that article? Of course Sanders was saying that then. He wanted a payday. There was absolutely no point in a fight by that point. Wlad don't even get credit for beating Brewster, it isn't like he would get any for beating that version of Sanders.

If you followed boxing AT ALL during that time, it was well known, common knowledge that Wlad not only persued a rematch, but actually tried to get the WBO to force it.

when did Wlad ask the WBO for a Sanders rematch? WBO ruling that Sanders had to fight Brewster was about two weeks after Sanders beat Wlad. Wlados then promoter had 4 fight options on Sanders. Sanders took them to court but failed and wanted none of a Brewster fight either..
