Are iron chins born or bred?
Iron chins, are you born with them or are they developed through training and fighting style?
Could it be that fighters that dont get accostumed to get punched in the face since they're kids are destined to become glass jawed frauds in the pro stage? Examples: Mexican fighters are famous for the quality of their chins, they're also famous for their agressive style that disregards defense for attack, the typical mexican fighter gets hit a lot, yet he also posseses a great chin so he can be succesful with that style. Mexicans barely spend time in the amateurs so they get accostumed to get punched in the face since an early age in the pro stage. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KZx_mmAAau...rQ/s1600/9.gif mexican chin in display On the other hand you have the cubans, most of them seem to possess fragile glass mandibles in the pro stage, they also tend to have very, very extensive amateur bgs, so they're accostumed to be protected by headgear most of their boxing lives. Cubans are proud of their skills, they dont like to get hit, and they dont get hit very often in the pros, but the moment they do, stuff like this happens: http://i40.tinypic.com/2808tgh.gif cuban chin in display So what do you think? are solid chins a genetic trait? are they a by-product of getting used to get punched in the face since an early age? or maybe a combination of both factors? what's the secret behind the Haglers, Chuvalos, McCalls of the world? |

Born, you can make it better with neck training but if you are sadly born with glass jaw you cant improve it to be decent.

many of guys here act like amateur headgear protects chin suggestion for you put it on and let boxer hit you on the jaw with a straight punch, you will find out there is no difference. Tyson had very good chin and got dropped in sparring with headgear on!! |
Re: Are iron chins born or bred?
lol this guy thinks headgear is to protect that chin
Very weak thread and logic/reasoning |
Re: Are iron chins born or bred?
Born. You can build up your body, neck, legs, defense, etc to help you take punches better. But flat out takin bombs flush is just sumthin that comes natural. It's more about your mentality than anything else.

Most of the time it comes down to defense. But of course some fighter are able to absorb punches better than others

Re: Are iron chins born or bred?
ye born i think, dont think kahn and others dont put loads of training on there neck
|
Re: Are iron chins born or bred?
Born, but can be trained to a certain extent.
You can train your muscles that help absorb punches, but you can't change the shape of your jaw or head or size of your head. |
Re: Are iron chins born or bred?
A bit of both.
Some weak chinned fighters get stopped less often than what they might because of good conditioning/defence etc, and some iron chinned guys get stopped because they neglect defence and just allow themselves to be hit with hard shots repeatedly. |

Probably a bit of both.
Chuvalo spent a lot of time training to absorb punches .... |
Re: Are iron chins born or bred?
You can't generalize.
