Prime Sven Ottke vs Prime Jermain Taylor

Would Ottke's counter punching make for a frustrating match?

Give me Jermain.

Better jab, longer, stronger, faster. He'd start to fade, and Ottke would pick up rounds late, but I see a reasonably wide UD for Taylor, who hasn't really been outboxed by a guy not named Hopkins. Roy Jones, Chad Dawson, and Joe Calzaghe are just about the only guys who can say otherwise.

Yeah would be frustrating. Would be an usual Ottke fight. Taylor is not good enough to force Ottke fighting his fight so Ottke will do what he always does. Fight for the first 7-9 rounds, depending how clearly he wins the first 7, then getīs on his bike and runs until the fight is over giving away the last rounds making the fight closer than it should be.
Thatīs what he did in all of his fights but Mundine and the last 2-3 when he was past it. Only reason his close fights (win or actually lose) are actually close. The man said it himself, he doesnīt care about the fans, just about winning without getting any damage and thus making money and beeing able to enjoy his life after boxing, not ending up like Ali. I think if he really would have had passion for the sport and committed to it, he might have ended up beeing a great, he had the potential.

edit: while not as good as Hopkins and Jones he was on the same level as Calzaghe and better than Dawson IMO.

I believe Taylor had a more effective jab than what Reid showed against Ottke, it's his ticket of course but I'm not sure how Taylor mentally would react to Ottke's defensive style, add to that the ref possibly helping Ottke.

Ottke was past it against Reid. He started sliding after Brewer II. He turned pro with 28 after a very long amateur career where he beat fighters like Byrd, Moorer and many others who were successful in the pro game. Reid is a bad example for an Ottke fight. And while it is en voge to think Ottke had help like he had in the Reid fight all the time. He had not. Thatīs a myth, just like him robbing everybody. this comes from him winning all his close fights due to what I described (and his corner getting told the score cards every few rounds thus enabling them ad******g, beautifully to see in the Mundine fight - that was the real scandalous thing about Ottke).

How would Taylor react to someone who would absolutly school him with his footwork? Ottke was one of the best with his feet of the last 20-30 years. Sure Taylor had the better jab but his footwork was not good, Ottke would continously out-maneuver him, put him off-balance and score with his potshots. Taylor would get in a few licks but Ottke could take it. He would frustrate Taylor like hell. Hopkins was a spoiler against Taylor? Ottke was abetter spoiler than that Hopkins with better stamina and a higher workrate.

If Taylor can beat Hopkins he can beat Ottke too, bit simple analysis but I'll run with it. Taylor's at his best against light hitting pure boxers, wasn't Mundine up against Ottke also?

Mundine was only on his 10th pro fight, he got KO'd by a temple shot, IMO I think if it was just a few more matches for him he would of had a decent chance.

Mundine was winning the fight until the comical KO.

Dawson didn't have a good amateur career as him but how is he better than Dawson? Skills or what?

Mundine was winning early, when the KO happened it was pretty even.

Yes, indeed. Much better footwork, more intelligent fighter, tremendous stamina, an amazing judgement of distance, better defence. Dawson is more athletic, bigger and has more power but thatīs it. Ottke was better overall.
