? on cutting off the ring

People always talk about Pacman doesn't know how to cut off the ring. What does it really mean? So if Manny hurts the opponent like Mosley and he decides to dance around the ring, if Manny can not cut off the ring how does he hit Mosley again? So this is kind of confusing to me.

Can anyone cut the ring off anyone if they follow the method? Is it like learning how to ride a bike ie once you learn it then you know how to do it? Are there contrasting method/techniques of cutting the ring? What about teaching how not to get pin?

there's cutting the ring off from a fighter that's moving.

and from a fighter that's running....

mosley was running.

cutting the ring off means not following an opponent around the ring, but cutting off their routes. To use lateral movement to cut them off which would eventually in theory result in the opponent being in the corner or against the ropes. If he moves to your left, then you slide/step left

Watch Chavez's footwork and you'll understand.

Ok, so you are saying Mosley runs faster than Manny can, therefore it is not possible to cut off the ring in that case. -))

Appreciate that description. How do you teach someone to recognize a route? Is it as simple as anticipating where your opponent is going to be?

At least you're asking questions to gain more boxing knowledge. Kudos for that. bballchump pretty much answered your question though.

The thing with Pacquiao is, his feet are so fast that it makes it easier to tell that he's not good at cutting off the ring. He has the footspeed to do it. He just hasn't been taught.

That video makes alot of sense. Only moving to neither side or backwards. So when Mosley started to consistently circle away from Manny's left, that really should have made cutting off the ring much easier for Manny.
