Your opinion: What makes a power-puncher?

Broad shoulders, strong legs, thin waist, big forearms/fists? Or is it not as simple as that? Is it the kinetic chain, how well one can generate 'power' (mass x speed) ????

Sloping shoulders, a good sense of leverage, excellent timing,

Nobody's been able ta figure it out to an exact science, MB. If they had, all of the singles hitters would be hitting home runs. It's boxing's Holy Grail.

Knowing how to throw a power punch and taking great pleasure and importance in throwing a power punch. There's more to it than that - being a master of a particular punch, being able to explosively shit your body weight, strength, size advantages, knowing where to place that punch

That would lead to one kind of knockout, for sure.

No mas, indeed.

I believe most of the power comes from the shoulders, hips, legs, arms, and wrist. In that order, but the percentage varies with different builds and the type of punch thrown. There have been some thin legged punchers but even the thin ones like Hearns, Wills, Dempsey, or Fitzsimmons had strong shoulders.

Mass behind the punch and velocity greatly augment the striking force of a blow. A tight fist can add a little to the equations as well. Above all else, a punch must have some snap to it, otherwise it’s a push/arm punch.

Lew Jenkins (who looked like a scare crow) must have been the exception to the rule, M. Batann Death March survivors looked heartier. He was the lightweight champ who never trained, but LOVED to fight...in the street, in a bar.

His straight right electrocuted guys, left'em twitching on the canvas, from '35 pounders to light heavies

Some guys need coffee to get started, Lew needed a brawl to get his engine running.

One thing he hated -- in the gym or in the street -- was injustice. If he liked some one and he was being bullied, Lew waded in hammer 'm tongs

Explosivness, balance / leverage , techniqu and willing ness to comite to the punch, some peoples minds stop them from going all out.

It is all in the nervous system.

Don't try to link power to any physical atribute, because you will fail!

Spectacularly!

For every Tommy Hearns there is a Barbados Joe Walcott.

It only gets worse from there.

I honestly think, that power comes from the nervous system.
