Whats going on with Fred Mundraby.
From the outside looking in it looks like he is very badly managed, advised and has a promoter who is out to make a quick buck for himself. Had absolutely no business been in the ring with Ryo Akoha in his 13th fight. Jaw broken in the first round and took a brutal beating before been stopped in 5. They bring him back with two wins against guys with 0-1-0 and 15-16-4 records and now it looks like he's been fed to the wolf's again, heading back to Japan to tackle Taiki Eto who is 10-1 and much tougher matched than Mundraby. Mundraby is a talent, thats why it pisses me off. Won't accept that they can't get super-flyweights to fight in australia, there is decent international opponents they can bring over. No big money in them weights anyway. But he is not ready to be going in against those guys in japan with what he is fighting in Australia. Akoha is fighting for the WBC super flyweight title this month!!

Re: Whats going on with Fred Mundraby.
You can't have it both ways you said he had no business being in with ryo ahoha in his 13 th pro fight. then seem to say he should not of been fighting the softer fights coming back from it . At the end of the day Fred is like 15 and 1 and the jap he is about to face is like 10 and 1 . Either he is good enough or he isn't . They can build him up forever till he is like 100 and 1 . Yes they could of matched him a bit tougher to prepare him for these sorts of fights but that never happens in aus . Look at skinny , hussy , glen Kelly , Taylor , the list goes on and on

Re: Whats going on with Fred Mundraby.
Fred is a beautiful (Aboriginal) well mannered young man, but somewhat uncomfortable/unsettled when taken out of his environment (Cairns & surrounding area). When I heard he moved to Gold Coast & then Brisbane, I knew it would be short lived.
IMHO, Deller & Vocale should've never pushed him into Akaho fight.... given his activity & opponents. Maybe $$$ did the thinking ? |
Re: Whats going on with Fred Mundraby.
BTW, I was @ Fred's pro debut @ Kawana Waters vs. Nara Dau
Both were bit untidy at times (Intentional head butts here & there), but nothing Philly da Ref couldn't handle  |

Re: Whats going on with Fred Mundraby.
Agree with this , From an outsiders point of view I see Australian boxing needing to get more involved in the commonwealth title more often as a step up from National level even then though here there are another two steps up to be made to World class level ( next British then European ) you gain **** all padding a record out in the Asian bowl then get slammed to **** when "thought " ready for World class honours .

Re: Whats going on with Fred Mundraby.
Yeah mate i hear what you are saying but there has also been alot of world champ who have built up a early record fighting winnable fights But when they have stepped up from the softer opponents they have handled it . Joseph agbeko is one that springs to mind recently he fought pretty much no body but when his chance came he was good enough. I do agree with what you are saying though mate it does help to be tested on your way up which Fred really wasn't . Yes you are also spot on that the Japanese fighters are matched very though , but not all Asians most of the thai fighters have very padded records . Look at all the non title fights wongjongkam had they are against novices and his record Is like 80 something and 3 or 4 . I believe Fred is a very good little boxer but world ckass no and never will be . There is probably at least 15 of 20 japs alone that would beat him .

Re: Whats going on with Fred Mundraby.
seen him get easily out worked and dropped twice at the abl titles bout 5/6yrs ago by a amatauer that had 15 fights to freds his 80-or 100, and before the bout people where raving how he was the 1 to watch out for, but he got out muscled and out worked,

Re: Whats going on with Fred Mundraby.
Fred did not have no where near 100 am fights . I would say 40 to 50 tops
