how mundine beats geale.

what are mundines remaining asetts?

hand speed.
decent power.
clean lifestyle.

where has he faded?

less lateral movement.
more willing to stand and trade.
easier to hit.
footwork has slowed.
age.

what were always his problems.

poor corner.
poor punch resistance.
unwilling to work in close.
inferior head movement.
he was always a headhunter.
lack of body work.

the first and most important thing mundine MUST do, is slow the fight down. to do that, mundine must get respect from geale using his power. he has to stand on his punches early. he must not just headhunt. if he does, geale will cover up and reply. mundine must land solid body shots early. he must break up geales defence. put doubt into geales mind as to where mundine will hit him. slow geale down. make him hesitate and think.

mundine has always been a simple headhunter. if he suddenly starts throwing real solid body shots, he will surprise geale. hell, he'll surprise himself. he has to slow the fight down. the way to do that is by using power efficiently, and a conservation of energy, by making geale move back and laterally. mundine must stand his ground, establishing his power early.

if mundine tries to box 12 rounds with geale at geales pace, mundine is going to get outworkd, find himself tiring at about rd9, and will have to rely on his chin and tiring legs more as he will be too tired to avoid punches. he hasnt the head movement to avoid geales flurries. with mundines history of not taking shots to the head well, a tired mundine at rd9 is going out on a stretcher before rd12.

mundines only hope is to jump on geale early, not overwork himself or punch himself out, but land HARD combinations, to the body especially. he must confuse geales defence and slow the fight down. when in close, tie geale up, rough him up and punch hard to hurt him. when geale comes in hit him HARD. punching hard will help keep geale away, which will give mundine a chance to suck air during the fight as geale stands back to measure him. mundine must give geale doubts with his power.

he must hit and run.....EXCEPT, he must hit, and make GEALE run. he must walk forward. it is more energy efficient to go forward than going backwards or sideways. make geale do that. hit geale hard, let geale retreat. mundine must stand his ground and suck air as geale retreats and re-evaluates. mundine needs to conserve energy. he must let geale do all the moving. to do that, he must hit geale hard, confuse him, and not just headhunt. he must go to the body. headhunting geale by itself wont work. it wont confuse his defence.

mundine was never good in close. so dont try now. tie geale up in close. dont try something new. mundine must fight to his own strengths of what he has left. use the handspeed and the power he still has, and the ability to do the rounds IF he can manage to keep the fight slow. a fast fight will beat mundine.

however. mundine has never had a decent corner. i doubt he will this time either, and i doubt he will follow much of a plan. he will fight whats in front of him, and get outworked, then ko'd. mundine was once a thouroubred. but he was trained and taught to be a plough horse.

if mundine cant slow this fight down with his power, body shots, and confuse geales defence by strategy, its all one way from about rd6, with the writing on the wall by rd9, and a ko by rd11 or earlier.

Mundine has to hurt Geale during the first half of the fight to win.

He doesn't have to knock Geale out, but he does have to hurt him. I think he knows this which is why I give him a chance of winning.

If he doesn't hurt Geale early, as several others have pointed out, he will likely be outworked over the distance or suffer an attrition stoppage late.

To be honest I think the only way Mundine can beat Geale is playing snakes and ladders.

Mundine has to knock him out.

It's asking too much to win the contest on the cards when he is clearly shot and geaels corner will have the judges.

Chocs got no power at all these days - that is obvious from his fights in the last couple of years , shoulda had McKart and Woods outa there in a round or two if he had any real power . Choc aint no Ali doing a Foreman miracle here - looks like its a Larry Holmes career ender fight - hes got no Aces left.

yeah. he was comfortable a sm and had good power. he should have grown into a light heavy, but went the other way. and seems to have lost his power.

one of the factos for power is speed, the other is weight, you could also call in timing, and anchoring your feet. i still think he has or can put it together, but he trains to be a slugger, not as a slick boxer/puncher like he should have trained. the wisdom of his corner could win this fight for him with sage advise. but ive NEVER seen anything from them that suggests anything will change. fenech will try to have him lift his workrate...which will speed up the fight and see him destroyed. i just cant see anyone coaching him to slow the fight down.

i hope geale wins. its better for boxings future in oz if he does. but mundine has been walking round at middle for so long now, his body must have compensated. i still think he can punch, or has a punchers chance, despite the lack of clean ko's he's had. he is a solid puncher, dont worry. but so is sturm, and geale got round him.

$6 for a geale ko is good odds. choc should get into some of that action....:yep

Not a bad opening post Sally. By agreeing with a lot of it, I don't know if that's me losing my marbles as well, or you just fluking a Hail Mary.

I do disagree about his corner though. He won the first fight on the back of his corner thanks to their cerebral Paulsy method of hand wrapping.

Mundine will have to commit Geale to the punch, make him miss, get his shots off and get on his bike. He would have to use feints to draw Geale into an attack, when Geale attacks Mundine would have to slip the punch or take a half step back then let his punches go, before stepping off and getting ready to do it all again.

It's true that Mundine will also need to land these shots with enough authority to get Geales respect and he'll also need to have the legs behind him to fight this type of fight for 12 rounds. I'm not sure if he's still got it, but hopefully the fight lives up to the hype because if it gets some kids interested in the sport it can only be a good thing.
