A hypothetical fight. Floyd Mayweather vs. Paul Williams
As you can see I had a bit of time on my hands so I created a hypothetical fight round by round.
This fight would take place at welterweight and we'll assume both fighters are bringing their A game. Physical dimensions of both fighters. Mayweather height 5'8" reach 72, Williams 6'2" reach 81. Round 1. Absolutely no feeling out process for Williams, he throws barrages of punches in Floyd's direction, most of them being blocked but Floyd's never had to shoulder roll so many punches. Floyd lands several crisp counters but eats far more leather than he's used to. Round 1 Williams. Round 2. Williams continues walking Floyd down, throwing punches from all angels Floyd is noticeably uncomfortable. He does a lot of holding whenever Williams gets too close to him, once again Floyd lands the cleaner punches but is only potshotting. Round 2 Williams. Round 3 Mayweather begins to use the ring a bit more tagging Williams with solid right hands and immediately falling into a clinch. However, Floyd's mediocre punching power leaves Williams undeterred. He continues walking down Floyd landing punches that are more like slaps. Still Floyd won't open up his offense, Round 3 Williams. As of now Williams hasn't landed anything notable but has thrown 300+ punches while Floyd hasn't broke 100. Compubox numbers so far, Wiliiams 87 out of 309 punches landed, Floyd 56 out of 93 punches landed. Floyd is losing clearly based on aggression alone. During the break Roger has told his nephew that he has to be a little more busy, Floyd agrees to step it up. He asks Roger if he won the last round, Roger knowingly lies and tells him that he's kicking his @$% easy but just open up a bit more and he'll be ready to go in the late rounds. Round 4. Mayweather puts up his high guard and attempts to walk Williams down, he's immediately bombarded with slaps from all directions. Floyd retreats to the ropes resorting to more shoulder rolling. He catches Williams with several consecutive counters then begins to go downstairs. They are trading shots from close range Floyd lands the harder punches the crowd is coming alive. Round 4 Floyd. Round 5. Floyd meets Williams in the center of the ring and opens up with a 4 punch combo landing every shot Williams continues forward unfazed throwing more punches. Williams spends the remaining round along with the next two rounds recklessly following Floyd around the ring eating feather fisted potshots. Round 5,6,and 7 Floyd. Williams' cornerman Mr.Peterson has told his fighter " keep throwing punches you're doing fine" (Huh?). Round 8 More of the same Williams is getting countered to death, he refuses to use his height nor to work behind the jab from the outside. Round 8 Floyd. Round 9 More potshotting from Floyd, Floyd is coasting to a victory. Williams backs Floyd to the ropes and lands a big straight left hand, Floyd holds on but is stunned. Williams throws punches in bunches but fails to drop Floyd. Round 9 Williams. Lampley is having an org asm he swears Floyd was out on his feet. Ellerbee caresses Floyd during the break, Floyd claims he's ok. Round 10 Williams comes out and smothers Floyd with punches they are fighting in a phone booth they're both landing hard shots Floyd hasn't had to trade blows like this since his fight with Corley. Round 10 Williams. Round 11. Williams eats counters for the majority of the round but Floyd finds himself in the corner, he spends the remaining 45 seconds eating leather and shoulder rolling. Round 11 tie. Round 12 Wiliiams comes out and hurts Floyd with a stiff left hand Floyd holds on again, upon the break Williams throws a 7 punch combo landing 4 of the punches, it appears that he hurt Floyd with a punch downstairs. Shockingly The ref calls time, claiming that the body shot was low, he allows Floyd to walk it off, the replay is being shown on the jumbo-tron, the punch landed directly on the upper part of the cup nowhere near his groin area. The crowd begins to boo. Williams receives a hard warning and Floyd uses nearly the maximum of 5 minutes awarded for the "illegal blow". The fight resumes with Williams throwing punches nonstop, Floyd lands a few punches but nothing meaningful. Round 12 Williams. The decision is being announced. Ladies and gentlemen we go to the scorecards Ted Smith scores the fight 115-115 a draw, judge William Tyler scored it 117-111 and judge David Flo Mo scored 116-112 for your Winner by Majority decision Floyd Money MAAAAYYYWEEEAAATHHERRR. And that's it Floyd wins by a very big and questionable decision. Final compubox stats Williams 382 out of 1114 and Mayweather 257 out of 636 punches thrown. |

Re: A hypothetical fight. Floyd Mayweather vs. Paul Williams
The style would be a problem, because on top of the physical problem you have a guy who presents the same pressure nightmare as Castillo did.
The trade off is he isn't a big puncher. That said I don't think Floyd has the power to get Paul off him, but Paul doesn't have the ring smarts to cut the ring off Floyd and to stop Floyd from potshotting him and getting an easy UD victory. It is a great fight that never happened. |
Re: A hypothetical fight. Floyd Mayweather vs. Paul Williams
he would use that stiff jab to the midsection alllllll night against P-Will

Use spacing man

Re: A hypothetical fight. Floyd Mayweather vs. Paul Williams
Paul Williams would have been pretty close to unbeatable if he fought off his jab. However he favored a more agresive and crowd pleasing style. It's a style that Mayweather can take advantage of.

If Carlos Quintana can do it, Mayweather can do it!

Re: A hypothetical fight. Floyd Mayweather vs. Paul Williams
Williams could and perhaps would double up Mayweather's punch output and would still lose on the grounds of effective punching. He gets inside too much, wouldn't land with his lead shots and the height and reach advantage would be nullified immediately, with Mayweather picking him apart on the inside and landing one of his best punches the left hook (as opposed to Sergio's kryptonite left straight) at any time pulling out from the exchanges. Mayweather has shown too great of an ability to find his opponents weaknesses and expose those weaknesses while fighting the fight in a way which on paper would favor his opponent (inside fight vs. Hatton, walking down vs. Mosley, on ropes standing ground vs. Cotto). Floyd UD, probably 116-112 on all the cards.

hypothetical fight you asked???
:think...but of course, she wins. |
Re: A hypothetical fight. Floyd Mayweather vs. Paul Williams
Paul had far too many technical flaws, and defensive holes to beat Floyd.
Kermit Shitron was outboxing Williams for 4 rounds for Christ Sake! Floyd would have pretty clearly outpointed him. |

Post ***y PWill gets toyed with (as Lara dominated him). Pre ***y PWill makes for a difficult test. The only fighter I can say with near certainty that absolutely beats Floyd is Vernon Forrest. Pre Martinez PWill could present some obstacles though |
