At one time I ran a lot and I'd have to take every third day off due to my work schedule. I was a fireman and worked 24 on and 48 off. I'd run on my off days and never really felt fatigued unless I did a pretty good increase on distance or intensity. Rest is important for muscles to recoup.
Now, my knees are shot for running but I do lift weights at home and if I work my legs on Monday, it's not until Friday that I'll work them again. I'll do different body parts Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I try to take the weekend off or maybe work abs a little more on those days.
