I agree, BJJ was learned in Japan by the Gracies. And they just worked on the submisions aspect of Judo. Judo plays a part in some great fighters like the Gracies and Fedor. Sambo is also an adaptation of Judo and Fedor was also a Judo black belt.

in Judo they can have excellent transition from the throw into the submision. Also many of the hold downs can be used for ground and pound.
