Missed the quote. Hagler fought smart, he fought Hearns the way he was supposed to fight.
The style Hagler used to beat Hearns was never truly his, but he put himself into the type of a mindstate which allowed him to adopt it as his own, a convincing enough performance that many people still consider him a brawler (although less and less as footage of his other performances has since appeared).
Hagler caught criticism over his tentativeness against the likes of Antuofermo and Duran, as people felt that with his strength and durability he could have very well matched those fighters in an all-out brawl.
He put the critics to rest by walking straight into Hearns's right hand and through it. Taking his physical advantages and Hearns's weaknesses into account, it was the smartest thing to do, not that many others could have repeated the feat.
