Default Re: Antonio Cervantes 'Went in the Tank versus Wilfred Benetiz'

February 1976

With negotiations for a 'future' 1976 bout with WBA Lightweight Champion - Roberto Duran..........'gone up in smoke'

And with no 'big money fights' left in Southeast Asia, Central America, the Caribbean or Venezuela - Antonio Cervantes
and Ramiro Machado are offered up a 'deal' in Puerto Rico, by Gregorio Benetiz.

Gregorio Benetiz and his 'backers' offer Ramiro Machado (Kid Pambele's Manager) $200,000 to come to Puerto Rico
in March, to defend his WBA Light-Welterweight Championship versus his 17 1/2 year-old son - Wilfred Benetiz.

The 30 year-old - Antonio Cervantes, who will be set as a 4-1 Betting-Favorite to defeat this relative unknown
teenager (outside of Puerto Rico and The Bronx, New York). Ramiro Machado will then quietly 'bet' on the Puerto Rican
'teenager' to 'upset' his fighter, reaping the Manager Machado and his Colombian Champion Cervantes additional 'dinero'.

But it doesn't end there. As part of the agreement to 'dumping' the WBA Light-Welterweight Championship
to Wilfred Benetiz in Puerto Rico in March 1976, Wilfred 'must' make his 'first defense' versus Ramiro Machado's
other fighter, Colombian Light-Welterweight Champion - Emiliano Villa - within 90-days.

That bout will be held in Puerto Rico also, and Emiliano Villa is to receive a 'lucrative' fight purse as well.

All agreements are 'approved' by the WBA Chairman - Dr. Elias Cordova and the WBA Championship Committee. (?)
