But fighters like 'Buster' Douglas, 'Razor' Ruddock and 'Bonecrusher' Smith get remembered in a large part, because of their nicknames. And the three examples above had such 'iconic' nicknames, many casual fans would only know them as such and would unable to tell you the fighters first names, let alone their achievements in the ring.
