Re: Miguel Canto
Lester will like this one methinks.
A 5th round DQ win over Orlando Maldonado. To give you an idea about Canto at this time, this was only the second fight in over a year after the second fight with Park, a draw which most people seem to think was a robbery and should've went in Canto's favour. We know how out of sorts he looked in the first fight and how on-form Park was. By all accounts Canto tried harder second time round and Park turned in the first of many lazy and unfocused showings.
This gives us an idea of how Canto may well have approached the second Park fight. Never the quickest starter and with his reflexes dwindling, Canto struggles with the early pace, looking almost Roy Jones-esque in the way he can't quite out of way in time and hurt by a left hook early. In fact perhaps it's more reminiscent of Marquez at 135lbs. Not quite having the legs to get out of range in time forcing him into more exchanges.
But as 'El Maestro' finds his distance and timing he starts to look like the Canto of old. He steps in with a right cross then turns into a sweet left hook that deposits Maldonado on his trunks! Maldonado was not brilliant but he was only stopped by heavy hitters; Prudencio Cardona, Rafael Orono and Ramon Nery.
Another lovely left hook before an abrupt end to proceedings due to a cut over Canto's right eye apparently from a head butt but...can you see one??!? Poor angles.
Anyway, Canto past his best but worth a look.
