Default Re: Antonio Cervantes 'Went in the Tank versus Wilfred Benetiz'

Rocko,,,,,

By mid-late 1977, the Light-Welterweight Divison was not exciting on this side
of the Ocean.

WBC Champion - Saensak Muansurin was doing his thing in Thailand, Japan, South Korea and Spain.

The WBA, was stuck in the 'mud'.

Antonio Cervantes didn't want to leave the 'comforts' of his new digs in Venezuela,
where 'nobody' would get a fair chance in beating him.

Top-rated - Hector Thompson had lost 'twice' to Lachie Austin, and 'Sweet Saoul' Mamby
lost to Adriano 'Nani' Marrero. Roberto Duran was still not interested in fighting
'Kid Pambele', despite Antonio's slippage.

And, Carlos Maria Giminez would 'not' fight Cervantes in Venezuela anymore, after the
last fiasco.

Ramiro Machado actually tried to get the WBA to approve Frankie Benitez, who had just
'upset' #7 WBA-ranked Cemal Kamaci (European Light-Welterweight Champion), but
the WBA had suspended the whole group of Benitez Boxing Brothers.

And American Light-Welterweights - Monroe Brooks and Bruce Curry were not offered
shots at the WBA Champpion.
