Default Rashad Evans vs. Lil Nog (UFC 157)

Quote:
A light-heavyweight bout between former champion Rashad Evans (17-2-1 MMA, 12-2-1 UFC) and veteran Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (20-5 MMA, 3-2 UFC) is in the works for the UFC's traditional Super Bowl weekend event, which is likely to be UFC 157.

Globo brought word of the matchup today.

UFC officials weren't available for comment when contacted by MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com), but a source close to the event said the fight is tentatively targeted for Feb. 2.

The UFC had held a Las Vegas pay-per-view event on the eve of the NFL's Super Bowl every year since 2004. All but one have taken place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center, a 12,000-seat venue on the Las Vegas Strip.

Officials traditionally stack the Super Bowl weekend cards, and Evans vs. Nogueira certainly fits the bill.

Evans hasn't fought since a failed bid to take Jon Jones' title in April. Prior to the long-awaited grudge match, the 33-year-old was on a four-fight win streak that followed his 2009 title loss to Lyoto Machida. He qualified for the title shot with a UFC on FOX 1 main-event win over fast-rising contender Phil Davis in January.

Nogueira, meanwhile, most recently avoided a third straight loss with a TKO win over Tito Ortiz at UFC 140. Slowed by injuries, the PRIDE veteran, who had suffered losses to Davis and Ryan Bader in his previous two bouts, has been on the shelf since December 2011. In fact, a knee injury cost "Minotouro" a UFC on FUEL TV 2 headlining spot with Alexander Gustafsson in April.

A very tough return fight for Lil Nog. Rashad will very likely wrestle his way to victory, similar to how Davis and Bader defeated Nog.
