I had the same thing happen in a bootcamp class. Was in the lead for almost all of a 3K, and got passed by two guys in the final 50 meters.
From now on, you can mix up a 5k or 10k with your sprints and it'll help your boxing.

Last I heard, it wasn't even 5KM and was less than 4KM since the organizers wanted most to finish the race. The run was for a cause actually. I easily guessed since I wasn't that exhausted and many finished it..
Some 600+ ran. I started off slow hoping I could beat them one by one, eventually.
