It may be that they retire at a young age but not 'early' as their fighting careers start earlier so they've got the same mileage on 'em in years as a boxer that retires in his late 30s (but way more fights!)

Veeraphol was an exception though. Many Muay Thai fights, turned over to boxing pretty late, loads of fights and longevity there as well.
