Yep, there are a lot of products out there that have very extraordinary claims behind them. I'd focus on getting diet nailed down first before worrying about anything else.
Track your calories and weight for a while and see what happens on the scale, then adjust accordingly. If you find getting the calories in tough, then maybe buy a protein powder or something
