If the 'Soviets' had been allowed to turn pro, then money would of been taken out of the sport, as the 'Soviets' were after Olympic success. Without the money and the science behind the massive amateur programmes, there would not of been the talent that was created.

For those who did turn pro, it would be a road to nowhere, as they it would be unlikely that they would be allowed to fight outside the Soviet Union, even if they were good enough.
