Default Re: Best fighter an Australian has ever faced.

Some good tries.

Re. Richards and Hennebury etc vs Archie Moore, the Mongoose hadn't really hit his straps when he toured Down Under. You could say he was still learning.

Mundine fighting Monzon and Thompson fighting Duran are also great mentions but neither Duran or Monzon then despite their reputations where the undisputed best fighter on the planet at the time. Monzon ruled the middle's, but it didn't translate to ruling the p4p rankings. Similarly, Duran's standing at 135lb's generate alot of publicity but you've got to remember that he never would give Buchanan a rematch at 135lb after having the **** outboxed out of him before winning the title off a low-blow, plus way Estean DeJesus both beat and gave him hell even when losing...shows Duran wasn't dominant at 135.

So for me, the answer has to be Young Griffo fighting Joe Gans three times.

S'pose the next post will ask 'Who is Joe Gans?'!!!

I will add that had the Dave Sands fight come off agaisnt SRR, that'd have to be equel with Griffo-Gans for me.

Interisting thread.
