No, I'm not giving Dempsey points for fighting Gibbons instead of Greb (or Wills, or whoever else may have had better credentials as a challenger).
Nor am I giving Dempsey points for staying inactive for two years.
But I do acknowledge the fact he came off a 2-year-layoff and beat Tommy Gibbons, an excellent boxer, pretty clearly.
I GIVE HIM CREDIT FOR THE WIN, as any unbiased person would.
I also acknowledge that beating a decent contender over the 15 round distance off the back off a 2-year-layoff tends to indicate a champion of immense ability.
