Modern training is just incorporating old things that work into a periodised plan along with things that were frowned on back in the days such as weights and good nutrition, using advanced understanding of the human body to create a better athlete.
The only thing 'Old school' training might have over modern training is that maybe athletes used to train harder.
Train hard like old schoolers and train smart like new schoolers and you'll get the best out of yourself.
Agree with the nutrition side, why would an old schooler have trained harder?
