Fighters back then fight guys on a sparring partner level guys as pro fights which is why they can fight every week.
Some old greats does get exagerrated.
Great point. In my opinion, fighters today are more complex in terms of preparation. They go thru different stages (in the ring and outside of it - training and such) that fighters back then couldn't possibly go thru due to the limitations and less structured format that was present in the early beginnings of boxing.
Today's fighters also face other fighters who are on that level and get conditioned to a higher level of competition.
I do admit that there were some good fighters in the past but I do not believe they were as superior as some claim.
