From my experiences In Thailand & Holland is that Yes Thai camps spar light if at all, that's not to say that when your doing pad-work with a trainer in the ring he won't nail you if your making mistakes because he will(they do go a little easier on beginning farang though) their pad-work is very intense and IMO just as good as sparring on many levels. as far as Holland as I recall the sparring was harder however it was by no means a war and if someone got carried away you got thrown out of the gym for the day so if you are only there for a limited time its not worth it. the best way I can describe the sparring in Holland is there "give and take" where by you will defend while your partner works offence sometimes it doesn't work out quite like that but for the most part that's the unwritten rule.
