Re: I am a boxing manager: if you have questions about the boxing biz, ask!
Good interview with David Price here last night rebuilding his career after the back to back defeats with Thompson. The fight from Germany was shown watching it we learned one thing the most important point imo when a career is at the stage his is at...make or break his management team at last have a plan to work off.
However it turns out for Price because his chin will always be a major problem the plan is to use the most basic tool a HW his size will always have.
He has a very powerful right but has underused the jab.The plan Saturday under Tommy Brooks was not to throw anything other than jabs or straight shots no hooks, uppercuts no groundbreaking stuff.Keep it at range because without saying it they know the problem is right under his nose....his chin!
Sparring has been stopped constantly Price said which he finds frustrating at first but understands now why to expose technical flaws.Brooks by doing this is giving Price basic instructions Boxing kept simple sometimes for some fighters it's the best way to keep it.
Soon it will be open season in the HW division much like the post Holmes pre Tyson era most of us remembering would like to forget!
Vitali Klitschko has swapped the boxing ring for the political one so who's left?
That's right Wladimir the younger brother soon to follow into retirement no doubt.
Price is certainly not in their class as fighters but cast your mind back to 2003 Corrie Sanders destroyed big Wlad chin exposed big time. What did he do to rebuild yes you have got it came back fought largely from range with a ramrod jab & mainly straight shots it can't work for all.
You have to admire it when even the most basic of plans come together for Price it may just mean being engineered to at least get some good money fights a journey a plan.
