He only said the Marciano comment because of Marciano's family (mainly Peter), and the press egging him on. Think about it, if you just got your first defeat, lost the title, and almost everyone was egging you on, even after the fight in the ring you were very modest. He took everyone's **** for years as the heavyweight champion. He was mainly trying to be excepted (an impossible feat in Ali's shaddow). Once you get to know how Larry is in person, he's just a fun loving, funny, guy. He loves to joke around and all. He has a temper though, and the press always like to set it off, and Larry almost always gave a good reaction. Larry appologized countless times for the Marciano comment, and has Marciano's picture on the wall of his gym among the elite (the ones in special frames) with Dempsey, Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Sullivan, Corbett, Tunney, Walcott, Johnson, and many more.
