I don't go in for all that macho bullshit when it comes to training, if your sore your sore, all your gonna do is make it worse. And it sounds like the rings work is kicking your arse
Its always best to take it steady when breaking in something new. When i started bringing rope work (climbing) back into my routine after my shoulder injury a while ago, it was murder at first. Arms, chest, shoulders and core muscles all took a beating and slowed everything down a little for a week or 2 (as i was also building up chin/pull ups and bar dips again too)Just take your time mate.
