Re: Shocking News: Povetkin to fire Teddy Atlas?????!!!!
I loved Povetkin's left hooking against Oruh. Povetkin also showed nice handspeed and excellent combination punching. The downside is that Povetkin did get hit cleanly with powershots to the head, in addition to absorbing left hooks to the body. The leaky defense could ruin Povetkin against upper tier opponents who can hit.
To compensate for the defensive flaws, Povetkin either has to learn better, quicker, and more dynamic upper body movement (especially bobbing and weaving), or he has to put together a non-stop offensive that shuts his opponents down. Given Povetkin's lack of genuine knockout power, I doubt the second alternative is viable.
What did you guys think about Povetkin's broken hand against Firtha? Could that explain his shoddy performance?
