Are you the pressure giver or receiver?
Taking this CONSTRUCTIVELY knowing I am saying this not seeing your balance and movement, I think if you were actually being pressured you might find it a bit harder to advocate having your feet wider than usual.
A "normal" stance allows for greater efficiency of movement. Also, if the opponent has fleet feet, he can be on top of you and your only recourse is to straighten up or lean at the waist. Where as the opposite is to get low and slide the rear foot.
Again, I have not seen your stance so can't really judge.
