Mr Small i find this term bandied about willy nilly on this site but you trully are a scholar and a gent, a true Gad about town. Currently i am a poor student but hopefully at some point in the not so distant future i will have some money and would like to work out a full routine and diet with you. Until that day i will just try and improve as best i can and work out what specific goals i want to achieve.
Thanks again for all the help but one final small question when people say an arched back during squatting i dont really understand does that mean wth the middle of the back pushed in?? Back problems are something im terrified of so ive always shunned overdoing my deadlift/squats (never going above 100kg) |

Just to clarify, what I meant by my post on the man.
The books are good, the methods are good, he is in VERY good shape himself, that wasn't in dispute anyway but you compared me to him and said he is a strong guy, wahtever. A lot of folk would do very well to read them and follow the routines in the book, or make his own from the readings. He has brought to the attention of a lot of people a simple and effective way to train which caters well to boxing. I do not like him personally, some of his ideas are innovative or "hardcore" just to tick that box in people's minds rather than being anything differently effective, and he gets too much worship on the internet, which doubly annoys me as I am sure there are people using this training and churning out champions, but nobody knows about them because they are not American (sorry but when it comes to online training, majority are out of the US so they get a lot of exposure!) and not running an active website. There are other ways to improve your strength that are better than the ones outlined in his writing, if you have the equipment and time to learn the technique. And people should have in mind that he is selling books, getting clicks to his website and attention to his name off of producing his programs and writing his articles. The articles and stories are good though, this is not in doubt. But just like a lot of other articles on the interwebs about training, they will probably work for some time or seem new and interesting, because that is the whole point of the writer making them. Once again though I highlight that the book Never Gymless and Infinite Intensity, ARE good training manuals to have. That's all I meant. Ultimately, it is my own opinion, so it doesn't matter if you disagree with me or think I am wrong, that is your opinion, the other people can make their minds up. Where is this entry from this year?? I found my restarted log which lasted 3 posts which was in 2009, and my old one with the few pages from 2008. |

Put it like this I would never take advice from some as weak as mrSmall. By the way he did put his goals on the log. He is weaker then I was when I first started out. Johnboy you seem to have trouble reading, I said he had a log (short one) this year.

Don't worry about back problems. 99% of back problems have nothing to do with your back. Usually it is imbalances, tightness or injury to your IT band, hamstrings, quads, glutes, vmo, sciatic nerve, calves, or footwear. Arched back is something you should have with most lifting, as it gives you a solid base and is a strong link in the "chain" that transfers power through your body. Arched back means sticking your tailbone out. Lay flat on the floor and get someone to put a hand through under your lower back to the other side, arch your back and they should be able to do it, if you don't, they won't be able to. Hard to explain as its a natural thing. The best thing against back injuries or injuries in general? be STRONG and MOBILE. Get stronger, and work on your flexibility, and mobility in your joints, plus use solid technique, no rush for the weight, it will come. Quote:
Yeah I don't really understand why that was brought up, to make me feel weak? The guy has been training 10-15 years longer than me, and the video of him doing a partial trap bar lift of 585lbs is quite old, and I've done that before anyway. |

Just for the record I don't care if you like him (I have said this before but Johnboy seems unable to read). You said stuff which just not true (I quoted the bits im talking about). You can't post stuff thats not true on a public forum then moan when someone pulls you up on it.
You made comments like this "He's just a guy earning his living off of very basic and very effective methods that any half decent gym or trainer in the world would tell you to do". This is not true. He makes his living training training world class athletes. |

As a general rule, if you see someone with results you want, or is a respected individual in his field, it is better to follow their advice and give their methods a try, rather than some random weak skinny guy telling you how to get big and strong.

I never said gym, I said half decent trainer.. and there are NOT many around for a start. And I don't want to go off on this tangent because it will end up with me having to bash the guy to support my point, which was not my intention. Everyone makes a living somehow. His books, dvds have a pricetag, his website has ads. That's ALL I meant. |
