Default Eubank on training

"The first phase was conditioning, a five-day week. I would workout in the morning doing stretching, shadow boxing, hill running, cycling, push-ups, sit-ups and rope climbing.

"Then I would workout at the gym, doing stretching, shadow boxing, six rounds of heavy bag work, three rounds of pad work, 12 minutes of speed bag, 24 minutes of skipping, then sit-ups and medicine ball hits to the stomach. Then workout on the nautilus machine to finish.

"Six weeks out, I substituted heavy bag work for sparring every other day and took out weights and push-ups. The morning workout was beach running for 45 to 50 minutes, following sit-ups. This was a seven-day week.

"The sparring routine was three rounds for the first week, then six rounds for two weeks, nine rounds for two weeks and three rounds for the last week, finishing sparring the day prior to the fight itself. There was a 4-minute clock on the wall that we used."

"Stretching was very important, for flexibility, breathing purposes and injury prevention. The shadow boxing was used to work on movement and combinations, rather than just warm-up. The pads were used to work on punching technique rather than target practice, because I naturally had the accuracy and didn't have natural power.

"But nothing was more important than sparring. It was where you learned how to absorb punches."

"I would start training the Monday after the Saturday fight night. I had a slightly maniacal artistic license that allowed me train continuously and emotionally without resting my mind."

"My shadow boxing routine lasted 30 to 45 minutes before a fight. I was meticulous in a maniacal type fashion if truth be told."
