Default Roberto Cammarelle?

Anybody know what the 2008 Olympic Gold winner intends on doing? Is he going for Gold again in 2012 or does he intend on turning pro anytime in the future?

His amateur credentials are impressive!

He might go pro after the 2012 Olympics.

I don't think he has any intention of going pro. He's 31 and a police officer in Italy and seems to be very content with his life. He's also said to have back injuries which plague him (although he did perform well at the 2011 Europeans) so its possible that his best years have already passed.

He would be in real trouble as a pro though as he seems to be cursed when it comes to fighting Russian SHW's. He's lost to every top Russian he's faced Povetkin, Romanchuk, Timurziev, Kuzmin, Omarov.

I no longer care about Cammarelle. Good point, all the Russians beat him.

He's been a successful amateur for 10 years, and he is now 30, why would he want to go pro?

Cammaralle is probably done, or nearly done, as a boxer. He's been losing big fights lately. The losses to Kuzmin and Omarov were totally unexpected, and signal that Cammaralle may be over-the-hill.

Yeah he probably will try to win another gold in 2012 and be done with it. Even though he lost to the top Russian guys he's still a very good amateur. Romanchuk is definitely one I would have liked to have seen go pro but we all know that story

Once you hit 35 you can no longer compete in amateur boxing. I think...

It's a shame he hasn't gone pro. He has fast hands and good power and size. He would do well in the pros. I hope he turns pro soon.

I don't see the point in turning pro for him. He's achieved more than enough in boxing, winning the Olympics once and the Worlds twice. He's got a good carreer outside of boxing, and he's getting old now.

Poster at the top has it right, never any intention of going pro, holds a very good position in the Italian police force and is very proud of it.

I would not rule it out him going pro, you never know what kind of offers might pop out.

It really depends on his performance at the Olympics, if he wins someone may want to invest big in his pro career.

Anyway, if he turns pro I believe it will be a short career, 10-15 fights at the most, 2-4 years, for as long as he wins.

Cammarelle will debute in pro after the olimpics. Its good for him and for boxing. It will be good to see him in pro against Pulev and Povetkin who fights with them in amateur and to see how he will do in pro with them.

Is that actually confirmed, any links for that?

Camerelle canít beat the best Russian amateurs presently. So heís going pro after the Olympics in 2012? This is 4 years too late, however if properly managed he has enough talent to make the top ten. What source says ths?
