you're very generous in scoring 10-8 rounds without knockdowns i noticed..

Perhaps i should use them less often?

However, in this case it was very appropriate to show domination, since Paz threw 5 punches in round 4, & landed none.

Well just in my case, I usually score 10-8 rounds when knockdowns occur, except from maybe some of the Klitschko fights because they truly warrant that kind of scoring.

I guess it really doesn't matter that much in the end

byrd v oquendo (need to note how terrible this video quality is)

1: 10-9 quite an easy round to score as it was mostly fres running away, getting backed into the ropes and getting occassionally tagged.
2: 10-9 another easy round for byrd. fres landed a couple of decent counters but for the most part he was backed up against the ropes being tagged.
3: 10-9 closer round with fres starting to let his hands go more, but he left it a bit too late as he was mostly being backed up by byrd's jab.
4: 9-10 good round for oquendo as he picks up where he left off, seemingly denied a clear kd also.
5: 9-10 round began quite evenly matched but fres's combos took him clearly ahead for the last minute of the round.
6: 10-9 better round by byrd as he tightens up his defence and lands some good clean shots as well as backing up fres.
7: 9-10 oquendo has his timing back and catches byrd with the better shots for me.
8: 9-10 oqunedo goes back to looking scrappy with plenty of clinching and headbutts.fres outjabs byrd in this round.
9: 9-10 some good shots landed by oquendo this round who clearly has too much speed for byrd but often fights negatively.
10: 10-9 another terrible scrappy round with byrd landing the slight cleaner shots.
11: 10-9 a very close round with both guys landing good shots, I give byrd the edge on ring generalship.
12: 10-9 another close round but the better shots seem to be coming from Byrd's direction.

note: I can't believe how frustrated I am at Fres in this fight. at times he looked brilliant, outspeeding Byrd and beating him defensively. At other times he looked scrappy and amatuerish fighting more like john ruiz then ruiz himself did. Last round could have gone either way so I can see this being a draw also. To reward Fres with a victory for this performance seems a little off to me, but maybe due to degraded video he landed better shots than I could credit him for. Had Fres openend up more I'm convinced he's have swept a wide decision, I can't see Byrd having the power to knock him out. Obviously history shows he went for ruiz instead of a rematch and did get knocked out.

Golota v Byrd

1: 10-9 golota in complete control already dominating behind the jab.
2: 9-10 excellent boxing by byrd in this round, parrying, slipping, blocking, timing, countering, superb stuff.
3: 9-10 close round, byrd starts getting cocky against the ropes and takes some shots, but for the most part he makes golota look slow and clumsy whilst tagging him.
4: 10-9 much better by golota who nullifies byrd's attack and defence by keeping him pinned on the rope for the full round.
5: 10-9 closer round with byrd moving much better but still getting trapped on the ropes shipping good body shots.
6: 9-10 good stuff by byrd who lets himself get trapped on the ropes again but produces top quality defence and counter punching to completely outland golota.
7: 10-9 golota catches byrd with too many shots to give him a clear round.
8: 9-10 good round by Byrd, defending brilliantly for the most part and landing some good speedy counters.
9: 9-10 another good round by byrd who defends and counters brilliantly again. very impressed with his efforts tonight.
10: 10-9 good round by golota controlling with his staright punches walking byrd down and backing him up.
11: 9-10 good finish by golota but the first 2:30 were controlled by byrd's defence and clean punching.
12: 10-9 good final round by both men trading shots with golota landing some monster rights.

I just recently started scoring the fights i rewatch in this topic, no matter how one-sided.

Devon Alexander-Lucas Matthysse

Round 1- Alexanders round. Just totally outboxes and outworks the Argentinean. Turns him beautifully in spots, really works the jab.

Round 2- Mattysshe's round, close. Alexander sticks with what wins him the first, but Lucas starts to cut the ring, time some solid rights, and keeps the pressure on the body. Alexander really seems to wilt in the last thirty seconds, and Matthysse really seizes it by going downstairs hard.

Round 3- Alexander's round, big. He uses his feet very well in this round, stays right at his preferred range, and just works. The difference in speed shows up very noticeably, and on quite a few occasions, Devon makes Matthysse miss with three or four and jams his left hand down the pipe, hard.

Round 4- Matthysse, knockdown and big round on top. Matthysse opens the round with a perfectly time right hand that catches Alexander as he tries to turn away, putting him down clean. Alexander is trying to fight with a stick and move approach, but Lucas just barges ahead like a juggernaught and spends the whole round whacking Devon hard with right hands. Alexander NOT comfy in there.

Round 5- Alexander's round, clear. Lucas tries to stay in front of Alexander, bringing his pressure and his right hand, but he makes himself a target and Devon hits him quite a bit. Alexander still looks uncomfortable, but his response to the pressure is to throw and throw, and Matthysse isn't landing enough back in the fifth.

Round 6- Matthysse's round, close. Matthysse does the same thing, but this time with higher hands and more punches, and its having an effect. He doesn't miss a ton, and his right hand's and uppercuts, body and head, are teaming up nicely with his persistance and running Alexander ragged. Alexander throws fast flurries to deter Matthysse, and lands, but his punches are to fend off a predator, whereas Matthysse's are thudding and damaging, edging him the round.

Round 7- Matthyse's round, huge and dominant. Alexander is absolutely cracking under the pressure and the punishment- His legs look to be weakening, his head is no longer moving, and Lucas spends virtually the whole three minutes punching hard and landing solidly. The damage is beginning to mount, to the point where it appears the wheels are about to come off Alexander's cart. Him standing up without wobbling under the onslaught saves this from being a 10-8 round.

Round 8- Matthysse's round, big. Alexander's descent continues, and the power that is behind his punchers is beginning to waver. Matthysse stands in front of the weakening Alexander, throws, lands, shrugs off whatever Alexander can muster back, and throws more. His foot movement is actually quite solid, as he is consistently in front of Alexander, in position to punch hard, and the damage and persistent threat is running Devon ragged.

Round 9- Alexander's round, big. Devon adjusts his gameplan, relying less on movement in this round and more on turning Matthysse, and it pays off: With his feet planted more when he punches, his flurries actually pack a little bit of steam now, and Matthysse is suddenly getting hit and not simply walking through it. He devolves a bit to chasing a spinning Alexander around looking for big rights, which Alexander easily times and avoids. Matthysse regains some composure late in the round and goes back to the body, but Alexander lands upstairs as he does, and clinches his best round since the third.

Round 10- Matthysse's round, clear. Alexander comes out looking to have a big round with big punches, and promptly stands and trades for most of the round trying to connect big, and gets outworked and outbrawled in the process. He lacks the firepower to win that sort of fight, and is beat from corner to corner throughout the round.

I scored this fight 96-93 for Matthysse, and I don't think it was particularly close or hard to score. Alexander simply didn't win-His gameplan failed miserably, he got beat up and ran ragged, he got dropped, and he failed to land many shots of note all night.

This was a bad decision.

McCline v Byrd

1: 10-9 not much between them but Jameel looked like the ring general in there whilst byrd did very little.
2: 10-8 good knockdown scored by jameel at the bell after sustained pressure.
3: 10-9 good start to the round by mccline but seems to punch himself out a bit.
4: 9-10 better by Byrd as jameel looks slow and lethargic.
5: 9-10 another good round by byrd who controls from the outside, jameel has sporadic success but not enough to win a round.
6: 9-10 similar to the last round with byrd on top for the most part limiting jameel to sporadic scuccesses.
7: 9-10 good round by byrd landing lots of clean shots on a the slow pondering mccline.
8: 9-10 the pattern continues with byrd landing lots of shots that finally loked to be taking their toll on big time by the end of the round.
9: 9-10 another close but clear round for byrd who is just much too fast for big time mccline
10: 10-9 better round for jameel who is able to make the round a scrappy match of strength which obviously favours his size and frame.
11: 9-10 much better by Byrd whio dominates jameel behind his blazing combinations.
12: 9-10 another Byrd round as he completely,outclasses Mcline at times landing 3 or 4 punches to his 1.

I watched this fight yesterday and had the exact same score. I thought about scoring the 12th 10-8. Byrd was just totally on top the whole time, landed so much. Do you think it's reasonable?

Someone with byrd's power, imo, has to score a knockdown to have a 10-8 round.

Golota v Ruiz
1: 9-10 good round for ruiz who swarms golota making him look quite useless. never hurting the big man but nullifying his attack totally.
2: 10-7 beautiful first kd for golota with a counter right, 2nd looks a bit dubious but the ref calls it.
3: 10-9 very scrappy close round, better punches seemed to come from golota.
4: 10-9 horrible round to watch with again the better work coming from andrew.
5: 9-10 ruiz spoils all of golota's attack landing some decent clean shots.
6: 10-9 again ruiz tries to nullify golota's attack but ships a couple of decent shots.
7: 9-10 another close round but ruiz landed some good body shots and spoiled most of golota's work.
8: 10-9 golota out strengths ruiz when he tries clinching and still gets his shots off.
9: 9-10 good work by ruiz who goes back to swarm rather than hug and gets some nice shots in.
10: 10-8 ruiz was fighting good this round but not enough to negate a kd.
11: 10-9 golota fighting well behind the jab catching ruiz when he comes in to hug.
12: 9-10 good last round by ruiz who lands some good inside shots and some good counter shots on golota.

Froch v Dirrell

1: 9-10 good round for andre, standing his ground in the centre and outjabbing Froch for the majority of the round.
2: 9-10 another tactical round much closer but the clean shots came from andre with a great double counter left hook.
3: 9-10 tough round to score, froch's agression wasn't effective but Dirrell's defence was overly negative. Froch was clearly the ring general but the emphasis is on clean effective punches and it's undoubted who landed the more of those.
4: 10-9 much better by froch who starts to actually defend with something other than his chin.
5: 9-10 dirrell goes back to countering froch's shots with greater effectiveness thus landing better punches throughout the fight.
6: 10-9 much better round for Froch, setting his attack up behind the jab and cutting the ring off much better.
7: 10-9 Froch closes the distance with some good inside work completely taking dirrell out of his comfort zone and probably just edges the shot count with a clear advantage from being the ring general.
8: 10-9 close round, both land big shots on each other but the inside work is much more even. Froch gets the nod for ring generalship.
9: 9-10 much better round byr dirrell who barely takes a punch in the first 2 minutes whilst landing some solid hard counter shots.
10: 9-9 dirrell outboxes and outpunches froch with crisp accurate shots, more willing to trade now. loses a point for clinching or headbutting, not sure.
11: 9-10 andre again lans really good clean shots and looks a class above froch at this point.
12: 9-10 closer round, but again the better work is coming from andre.
