Getting strong is a 10 for most sports, including boxing. Weight-lifting is a great way to get stronger if done properly, but there are probably other ways too.

2. It could help but your time is better spent working on your boxing technique and doing boxing drills then bodybuilding

Agreed. Except bodybuilding is useless for boxing.

It can help, especially if you are a very physical style fighter. But it's really rare to lose a fight and say 'damn I could've won if I was stronger'. You will lose because you were out of condition (cardio) or he was too skilled. So that's where you should be spending most of your training time on. Skills and conditioning. If you still have time to lift some weights and you think it will benefit you, then go for it.

Just don't train like a bodybuilder lol.

personally i would say 10, since i have started lifting weights my punching power has increased and my speed has increased and have a stronger presence, meaning i dont get man handled around the ring. When i wasnt lifting weights i didnt have much punching power, speed was ok but got pushed around a lot easier too. Lifting weights has helped me a lot, i havnt put on too much weight but have gained lots more strength. I think it is best to be stronger and give away some height, then it is to have a height advantage and be weak. Obviously learning boxing technique come first, but having strength behind your technique will help too

ps. weight lifting is NOT body building, you want to gain strength not train like a body builder. You need to know how to train properly

Depends on the individual, could be a one for someone and a ten for another person, there are alot of factors to take into account.

weights are just a tool , what is it you want to improve with them?

for me personally i train some max strength, but muscular endurance and explosiveness and conditioning are more important to me at the moment

Started working out around 5-6 month ago im 5'11 and weighed just over 9 stone im now just under 11 stone. I did mainly weight lifting but it is nothing on pull ups, chin ups etc for your arms and sholders i have found nothing better got good definition on them now and genuinly feel the benifits when i hit the bag or double end bag.

so id number weight lifting at 3-4 i only ever use them for sholder shrugs and kettlebells for squats

in my opinion i think body weight workouts are better for conditioning . Not saying it isnt nice to change it up every once and a while with some weight training.

body weight and weight is all the same, it is all resistance. Resistance from your bodies weight or resistance from weighted plates. I think you can get stronger training with weights. There is more variety amd you can vary the weight.

too true always good to mix up a routine before your body gets used to it or it begins to bore you to death aha

i think weights when used well are brilliant but they work best on compound exercises like deadlift squats etc rather than just sitting down curling and working a single muscle.
