Default The Elliptical/Cross Trainer for Cardio?

I haven't been able to Box due to work commitments, but i do use the local gym 3-5 times a week, and was wondering...

What do you guys reckon to using this machine for cardio aimed at fat loss?

Now i know that some of you will say 'Running' (****ing HATE IT) and 'clean your diet up' (It's very sound), but this machine seem's like a beast.

I'm going to couple it with Swimming, Weights & Judo (On the Excercise side of things).

But this machine will be the piece of kit that i use 3-5 times a week, 3 miles each session, hopefully.

Thoughts?

I use a Cross Trainer more often than anything else. I have old hip injuries it helps me stay loose.

What kind of routine do you do mate?

Mile in a certain time?

Intervals?

Long distance etc?

Interval just by nature. I've gotten to the point that I'm at maximum incline maximum resistance the entire time so the machine cant control intensity anymore. I have to do it myself. Ill go really hard for a few minutes and then back off. At the end I just look at how many cal the machine says I burned. Its not accurate but it gives an idea of how much energy I spent relative to past days as long as I'm improving every week I'm happy. Although sometimes I get caught up in what’s on sportscenter and don’t get close to my goal. But hey its the long run.

But its not the only cardio I do. I'll do the bike on interval. Tredmill rarely(too many knee operations to do that regullar), stair climber, skip rope (if the studio is open). The point is just to keep it fresh. The more you do one kind of exercise the few calories the body burns doing it per unit time. You get more efficient at what ever you do the more you do it.

It's probably good recovery cardio since you're also doing weights and judo.

Iv always used it for 5-10 mins for warm up, but never really enjoyed it or found it effective. Out of all the "cardio" machines i find it the least effective really. Prefer the rower , bike or treadmill!

But the one if found the best is the new gym im in has a versa climber and i love it!

It is better than nothing, but look at who rides it. Most (NOT ALL) chicks in a gym gravitate to... easy crap. Look at the row of treadmills... Look at the row of elliptical machines... Where are the chicks? Exactly.

Running is a necessary evil. 3:1, 2:1, or 1:1 intervals on a treadmill will give you all you can handle and not even require too much time, 20 or 25 mins if you do warm up and cool down on the mill. Great for Boxing as intervals are a little harder to monitor outside.

However there are multiple ways to skin a cat and anything can be hardcore if you approach it right. So if the elliptical is the way you want to go? Just approach it like it is getting you ready for fighting.

I think it all depends on how you use it. My gym only has two and they have a range of motion far beyond any elliptical or treadmill if you us it. But most of the douchebags who use it have it set to the lowest setting with hardly any resistance. In that case its no different than an elliptical. Its the range of motion that makes the difference.

I would so love to have one or two but the problem is that lots of hot women work out at my gym. If one of them got on one of those I'd get no work done and I sure as hell wouldn't have a clue what is on sports center.
