Pavlik was in no kind of shape to fight that night but he did. Pavlik probably knew there was a good chance he could lose when he was in rehab during training camp but he took the fight on. All he asked was the rematch be at 164 pounds so he would not be weight drained. Its plain as day to me that Martinez screwed Pavlik.

The commentary team did not hide their rooting interest at all. They were openly saying things like "we hope Martinez did not take this fight seriously so perhaps he will fade down the stretch." I forget the main commentator's name, but he was openly mocking Martinez's hands-down boxing and said that he was making a fool of himself.
If anyone has ever seen Martinez fight, he fights with his hands low all the time and it's not something new he did to show up Barker. I usually find Sky to be pretty respectful of both British and non-British fighters, but their coverage of the fight was pretty disgraceful. Mocking a champion round after round and only giving credit to Barker even after the knockout. |

Carl Froch has had a better line up of wins but he was nowhere near most p4p top 5 list.
Donaire definitely has better boxing skills compared to Martinez and he was landing planned and deliberate punches not lucky-hail mary-head looking at the side-punches lmao |

His career has mostly been at 147 and 154. Add to this that he started boxing very late. He's now at 160, at 36 years old. That's probably as high as he should go. He'll probably fight any of the super six fighters. At 160. |

Sergio was up against a guy who had the ear muffs on the entire fight. Adjusted, broke him down and stopped him. I dont see the problem. He'd KO Pirog, Sturm or Geale the same way.

Every fighter has an off day, or an opponent that they maybe don't prepare fully for or take serious. It's quite possible Martinez boxed to the level of his opponent, people need to give him some slack and see what happens next. |

Actually, I don't think the Sky team were that off the ball. They were mocking his hands-down style because, quite simply, it was pretty ineffective on the night. He wasn’t drawing Barker into counter, and he wasn’t moving his head when Barker threw. They were just giving a brutal, but honest, assessment of him. And they were very right when they said he shouldn’t be mentioned on the same level as Pac and May, pound-for-pound wise.
