Toney still won't be in HW contender status after that, so he has to beat another opponent first and with Toney's current activity it means the fight would happen no earlier as the end of 2012 (with James being 44 by then).

Toney would certainly get top-15 HW rating for some organizations, if he beats top-3 cruiserweight in the world and moves back up to HW.
So he wouldnt need to have an another match before the title shot.

That's also probably the reason why people here see him beat a crude puncher like Lebedev, walking trough a couple of big shots that drop most guys from that weight and edging out a decision. Wlad wouldn’t be able to hit him with his power punches cleanly and would be very cautious when he would fight counter puncher of Toneys caliber.
Toney would at least make it a closer fight, than most of the Wlads opponents could.

Of course fighting Povetkin for the title first would be better idea in my mind, than going straight to Wlad after Lebedev.

Toney beats Lebedev easily. His best shot at a (just about) legitimate belt up at HW is to fight Povetkin. I'm a Toney fan but all his talk of wanting to face the "Bitchko sisters" is just that: talk. In terms of size JT will simply be outgunned by either of them and he knows it. There is no way at this stage of his career he has the speed and reflexes to negate the massive height and reach advantage they have over him, he has no intention of ever fighting the K Bros...
