Marquez was a master boxer, with no superstar status so he could be easily avoided.
Barerra was considered a fighter who would brawl with Hamed, so he was chosen, he also had that superstar right.

The MAB who turned up was like a version of Marquez, a boxer who controlled the fight, and the rythm of the opponent, Marquez for me, dominates Hamed 10 out of 10. I'm far more regretful that we never saw Morales vs Marquez.

Especially the Marquez vs Morales comment...

Hamed would have so much trouble against a counter-puncher Marquez w/c was Marquez' classic blueprint @ 126.
But Hamed would KO a 135/144 version of Marquez w/c was more aggressive in attacking.
Just my 2 cents

Hamed's power and Marquez's chin = only one conclusion.

Marquez actually flew out to a few of the WBO conventions to beg the WBO to force the mandatory. However, the corrupt ABC soup org would not oblige.

Marquez grew tired of being ducked so he accepted the Norwood fight on HBO. Norwood was not exactly the best opponent to showcase his skills because Norwood was a southpaw stinker. He was so bad I would've picked him to make Barrera look bad also. Nevertheless, many still had Marquez winning that fight.

Sometime later Hamed supposedly offered the fight to Marquez, but Marquez had promised his wife a long vacation for their honeymoon. Therefore, the short notice wasn't going to work for him. Many opine that Hamed was never serious about the bout. He knew Marquez would decline the bout at that point because of his vacation. Therefore, it was the perfect opportunity for him to try to save face and make it look like he wasn't afraid of Marquez.
During that 2 year period where Hamed was ducking Marquez, Hamed was getting some bad press cliping insinuating as such.

To try and dispell some of those clipping, with the help of HBO at the time which HBO was hyping Hamed and wanted to build his following in the US.
Hamed along with HBO's help, contrived to offer Marquez a fight with a price and date that was designed for Marquez to reject.

The date was to have the fight take place on a 3 week notice.
For God's sake, Marquez does'nt take tuneups on 3 weeks notice, much less a fighter as dangerous as Hamed was perceived to be.

In any regards, Marquez and Nacho told Hamed and HBO to go **** themselves. After putting so much time and energy through the months to try and get that matchup made, they were quite frankly spent and tired of their shenanigans and were moving on.

.......and to anyone that does'nt believe it was Hamed that ducked Marquez. Emmanuel Steward who was co-training Hamed through that time period, has admitted that indeed Hamed did'nt want any part of Marquez and that he himself had advised Hamed not to fight Marquez.
