Amazing fight. I think it's great that a Pride fight made the list of greatest UFC fights of all time! Wanderlei's triumph on the co-main event made for an interesting curtain raiser for the Shogun/Hendo battle.

I didn't think it would go 5. It was so violent that I wasn't scoring properly. Only in the 5the 5th which I think is a clear 10-8. Shogun held top mount position and ground and pounded for pretty much 5 mins. My gut says it was 2-2 going into the 5th or at worse 3-1 Hendo. Not outraged by the decision but a draw was fair or 1 point either way.
Both fighters were just incredible in terms of heart and the damage they were so eager to inflict. Unfortunately, stylistically, they know no other way. Neither of them know how to start jabbing and moving, breaking down the legs from a defensive position etc I can't see Hendo changing but Shogun has to start using his jab and moving his feet. |

Any time he's had bad cardio it's coming off a long layoff because of an injury. The Hendo fight was the first time his cardio was suspect for no good reason. I had him ahead of Machida. Jones beat him handily. The injury and layoff definitely didn't help, he gassed in the first 2 minutes, but I think a good injury free camp only delays the inevitable. No one is beating Jones. I was surprised that the ref didn't stop the fight in the 3rd. Dan was absolutely destroying Shogun when he landed his right hand, dropped him, and continued to rain blows on Rua. Had the ref stopped it right there, I wouldn't have a problem with it.
But.... the ref let the fight go on and gave us one of the best MMA fights in history. If HBO ever jumps on the MMA train and does MMA Legendary Nights, this fight is for damn sure going to be one of them. |
