Default Past-prime Chop Chop Corley Appreciation Thread!

Beat an 18-0 fighter in New York last night.

Before that he went to Russia to fight Ruslan Provodnikov and gave him a real scare. Some reports say he was shafted or that the fight was a lot closer than how the judges had it. Don't think the footage for that has turned up unfortunately.

Gave Maidana a real scare in Argentina, taking him the distance and winning more than a few rounds. Went back to Argentina to fight Matthysse where he was dropped about 10 times but kept getting back up

His Ukraine in Russia against Fedchenko was another when he could have arguably got the decision.

Dropped an SD in Canada, being to Kazakhstan twice and picked up wins...

Man deserves respect, he's 37 now, travels all over to take fights and hasn't descend into journeyman mode. Always turns up believing he can win and separates the suspects from the prospects. Telling that one of the fighters to genuinely beat him was Thomas Dulorme.

Boxing needs more guys like Chop Chop, fighters that can ask questions of the guys that are coming through the ranks, or provide a stiff test to the top level contenders in keep busy fights.

What I like best about him is his resilience; every time you think he may be done he comes out and produces a great performance which keeps him relevant for a few more fights.

Corley is an old school journeyman, when the word wasn't a slur but an indication that the fighter was well travelled and would provide a test to up and comers. I remember him putting in a good effort against Maidana, and Matthysse's stoppage of him showed up his lack of true power IMO, and also Chop Chop's gameness.

Still a good gauge, and a crafty fighter. Kudos to Corley

hector sanchez fight was despicable.

when he had cotto reeling with the right hook and under while cottos left hook was still swinging. brilliant technicanship.
wouldnt be a surprise if he was a lightweight or super feather if he had used weght draining methods.

great fighter love to see him fight aswell. the costumes made it amazing.

when he started losing in south america a few years back i thought that was it he would pack up and dissapear into car salesman. but no stays solid propect tester for the last half decade

Corley always was a gatekeeper so he was always a few losses from journeyman and age unfortunately put him there but good on him for trying to win. Hopefully he is getting paid. I think he has 8 children or something.

Chop Chop is always in terrific shape. He might be past his best but a great example of how you can prolong your career if you take care of yourself.

Provodnikov struggled with him (despite the cards) Maidana struggled with him as well...only Dulorme and Matthyse have had an easy night of him recently.

I hate how the words "journeyman" and "gatekeeper" are used in a disparaging fashion by some. You have journeymen at domestic level and at 'world' level to seperate prospects from contenders, and being in with one can show a young fighter what he needs to work on. Chop Chop is a great example of an old school journeyman.

I love Colrley, I was so impressed with the effort vs. Maidana when no one thought he had anything to offer. His techinque is still up there with the best despite his ageing years.

His motivation to carry on fighting shows the making of the man too. Wish him all the best for the rest of his career.

Corley is what I wish journeymen were like. He might lose but he'll keep it interesting and if you aren't sharp he'll take your 0. Sick and tired of the bull**** journeymen that the sport love, prospects are built on etc Load of bull****. Come to fight. Simples!

Of all the boxers I'm Facebook pals with he might be my favorite (both as a fighter and due his odd duck personality - up there with Terry Norris on both counts, really)
